NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State junior forward Brandon Monroe(Raeford, N.C.) was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball defensive player of the week, the conference announced Monday.

Monroe grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds and snatched a personal-best four steals in the Spartans' 76-54 win over Lethbridge on Dec. 29, which snapped a 10-game losing streak. Monroe also blocked one shot and scored a season-high 13 points for his first career double-double. Monroe helped NSU hold Lethbridge to 35 percent shooting and 54 points, season lows by an NSU opponent, and contributed to the Spartans' 52-33 rebounding edge.
