NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State sophomore Elayne Greer (Bakersfield, Calif.) tallied a career-high 14 kills and hit .345 to help the Spartan volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Hampton on Wednesday night at Holland Hall. NSU (9-21) took the match 22-25, 25-22, 27-25, 25-16.
In the first set, NSU went on a 3-0 run down the stretch to get within one, 23-22, but back-to-back Spartan errors gave Hampton (9-19) the first win.
The Spartans rallied to win the next three sets and take the match.
Mianna Armstrong led Hampton with 13 kills and added 10 digs. Mariah Baylor had 12 kills, while Ivana Suput and Adriana Vazquez had 19 and 16 digs, respectively.
For NSU, Angie Clewis (Lancaster, Texas) had 11 kills and six digs. Solange Honore (San Fernando, Trinidad) had a season-high 22 digs, while Tracey Copley (Virginia Beach Va.) had 10.
The Spartans head to Baltimore, Md. to play in the 2009 MEAC Volleyball Tournament. They take on Maryland Eastern Shore at 1 p.m. on Friday.
