CARY, N.C. — Norfolk State first baseman Jeanette Sauceda (Ontario, Calif.) went a combined 6-for-9 with two home runs, one triple and six RBI to help NSU to a 10-0, 11-5 sweep of the North Carolina Central softball team on Friday at the Thomas E. Brooks Field.

In game 1, NSU (2-2) got on the board on a three-run homer by Danielle Wright (Safety Harbor, Fla.) in the top of the third inning. The Spartans tacked on one more run on Sauceda's triple that scored Rebecca Barnes (Hampton, Va.).

NSU posted six runs on four hits in the top of the seventh to seal the win. Alyssa Velazquez (Aurora, Colo.) earned her first win of the season in a seven-inning, four-hit shutout in which she struck out four. Kri Schooler gave up nine hits, 10 runs (eight earned) and walked eight in seven innings for the loss.

In the second game, NCCU (0-12) scored first on Miche Ishida's sacrifice hit that scored Sophia Blue in the bottom of the first to put the Lady Eagles up 1-0. But the Spartans answered in the next frame, getting two runs across the plate to go up 2-1.

Sauceda drove in NSU's two runs in the third inning on her second homer of the day to give the Spartans a 4-1 lead. NCCU scored twice in the bottom of the third and fourth innings, but the Spartan offense remained hot, giving NSU its second win of the day.

Ky Brown (Woodsfield, Ohio) pitched a 12-hit, five-run complete game for the win, while Ishida fell to 0-3 on the season after allowing 16 hits, 11 earned runs and walking 10 in six innings.

NSU returns to home to host Coppin State on Sunday. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
