Don Carey Blogs from the NFL Scouting Combine: Day 1

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – NSU senior cornerback Don Carey (Norfolk, Va.) is participating this week in the 2008 NFL Scouting Combine.

Carey and more than 300 other draft hopefuls will perform drills, strength and agility tests and interview with all 32 NFL teams in hopes of becoming the first Spartan to be selected in the draft since 1996.

Day 1: The first of many medical tests - by Don Carey

Today was kind of a whirlwind. The first thing we did was get off the plane, put our bags down at the hotel and go straight to the hospital for about three hours of tests. There are 60 defensive backs and we're split up into two groups of 30. Each group went through the same tests together…X-rays, an EKG, blood tests, urine samples, detailing our medical history with the hospital staff.

After that, we went through an orientation with our group. We met some ex-NFL players and they spoke to us for a while, telling us their stories and what to expect. Following that session, we spent a couple hours going through some informal interviews with position coaches from the 32 teams. That was beneficial to me, because I got to meet the defensive back coaches and talk about certain plays and coverages.

Today was pretty standard, but from here I don't know what to expect. Tomorrow (Sunday), we go through more detailed medical examinations and questioning from each of the 32 teams. I've heard there will be as many as five doctors from each team on hand, tugging on each of us this way and that way. We'll also get to conduct more interviews with the teams.

Thanks for reading and check back tomorrow for more!
