Box Score

CHARLESTON, S.C. —
The Charleston Southern softball team scored two runs on two hits in the bottom of the eighth inning to post a 4-3 win over Norfolk State on Friday afternoon in the Charleston Southern Lady Bucs Classic at Buccaneer Field.

With things tied at 2-all at the end of the seventh, NSU (4-4) scored quickly in the top of the eighth. Brianeisha Eure (Virginia Beach, Va.) was placed on second to start the inning per the tie-breaker rule and later scored after an error by the first baseman that allowed Jeanette Sauceda (Ontario, Calif.) to get to first base safely.

But in the bottom of eighth, the Lady Bucs (6-7) got the two runs they needed to seal the win.

Sondra Vetter picked up the win after pitching all eight innings and giving up four hits, three runs (two earned) and striking out nine. Alyssa Velazquez (Aurora, Colo.) took her second loss of the day after pitching two and two-third innings in relief and allowing five hits and three runs. NSU starter Ky Brown (Woodsfield, Ohio) threw five shutout innings and gave up five hits.

NSU had four players with one hit, including Rebecca Barnes (Hampton, Va.) who hit a two-run home run in the top of the fourth.

The Spartans wrap up tournament play tomorrow, taking on Campbell at 1 p.m. and Charleston Southern at 3 p.m.
