Softball Falls 4-3 to Campbell

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Campbell softball team scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to turn a 3-0 deficit into a 4-3 win over Norfolk State on Friday afternoon in the Charleston Southern Lady Bucs Classic at Buccaneer Field.

NSU (4-3) took the lead after a two-RBI home run by Meghan Ramsey (Virginia Beach, Va.) in the top of the fourth inning. The Spartans tacked on another run in the top of the seventh when Jamie Raab (Houston, Tex.) hit a single that scored Casey Pomeroy (Fallon, Nev.).

But Campbell (10-4) came alive in the bottom of the seventh and posted all the runs needed for the win. With two outs and a runner on second, Hillary Wheatley singled to score Katie Woodcock and give the Camels their first run. Amanda Miller followed with a single of her own and Katie Hinton hit a two-RBI triple to tie the score at 3-all. Hinton scored the game-winning run on Taylor McGee's single to end the game.

Lauren Stephan earned the win after giving up two hits and one earned run in one inning of relief. Alyssa Velazquez (Aurora, Colo.) fell to 2-1 on the season after she pitched six and two-third innings, allowing seven hits, four runs (three earned) and striking out five.

Ramsey led the NSU offense by going 3-for-3 and driving in two runs.

The Spartans play host Charleston Southern at 1 p.m.
