NORFOLK, Va. – For the second week in a row, Norfolk State junior forward Brandon Monroe (Raeford, N.C.) was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball defensive player of the week, the conference announced Monday.
Monroe grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds in last Monday's win over Winston-Salem State. The 17 rebounds are the second-most by a MEAC player in a game this year. Monroe also blocked two shots in that game. For the week, which also included a win over Hampton, Monroe averaged 11.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.
Monroe was also a key factor in the Spartans holding both WSSU and Hampton to under 36 percent shooting.
This is the third time this season Monroe has won the weekly defensive award.
