WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Led by a first-place finish by the 4x100 relay team, the Norfolk State men's track team compiled five top-five finishes over the weekend in its first outdoor meet of the season, the Wake Forest Open.
The 4x100 team of Darris Shelton (Hampton, Va.), Keith Nkrumah (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Trayman Hill (Greensville County, Va.) and Quinten Walker (Hampton, Va.) won in a time of 41.66 seconds.
The Spartans' next-highest finish came via Brett Dodd (San Antonio, Texas), who was second in the pole vault with a top height of 14-1.25. Shelton also had a strong showing in his field event, placing third in the long jump (23-3.5).
In other running events, Thomas Speller (Chesapeake, Va.) was fifth in the 200 (21.80) and sixth in the 400 (48.27), and Hill placed fifth in the 100 meters (11.09) and sixth in the 200 (21.81).
NSU is in action this Friday and Saturday at the Raleigh Relays.
