KNOXVILLE, Tenn.
– Junior Marlon Woods (Norfolk, Va.) qualified for the NCAA Regionals with his winning long jump of 24 feet, 9 inches on Saturday at the Sea Ray Relays hosted by Tennessee.

Woods, an NCAA indoor All-American in March, put himself on pace to repeat that feat outdoors by taking first place in the long jump at the prestigious Sea Ray Relays.

Woods also ran the anchor leg on the Spartans' fifth-place 4x100 meter relay team. Woods and teammates Quinten Walker (Hampton, Va.), Trayman Hill (Greensville County, Va.) and Thomas Speller (Chesapeake, Va.) ran a season-best time of 40.98 seconds in windy, cool conditions.

The Spartans also had athletes compete at the Hampton University Relays on Saturday. NSU's field athletes also performed well there, as Brett Dodd (San Antonio, Texas) won the pole vault (12-11.5) and Darris Shelton (Hampton, Va.) won triple jump (46-5) and placed second in the long jump (23-3).

The Spartans return to the track next Saturday at the Morgan State Legacy Meet in Baltimore, Md.
