PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Norfolk State junior Marlon Woods (Norfolk, Va.) finished second in the high jump and eighth in the long jump in the men's field events to highlight the Spartans' efforts on Friday at the Penn Relays at Franklin Field.
In his first outing of the outdoor season competing in the high jump, Woods cleared 6 feet, 9.75 inches. Purdue's Adetayo Adesanya won with a top height of 6-11.5
Woods also leapt 24-5.5 to take eighth in the men's long jump, Championship of America section.
The Spartans' relays also ran well, as all three teams earned top-25 finishes. The 4x100 team placed 22nd out of 86 (41.07), the 4x200 team was 17th out of 53 (1:25.00) and the sprint medley team was 15th out of 42 (3:25.31).
In other field events, freshman Darris Shelton (Hampton, Va.) placed 11th in the men's long jump, college section, with a solid effort of 23-2.75.
In track events, freshman Keith Nkrumah (Brooklyn, N.Y.) ran a season-best time of 52.87 seconds to finish 14th out of 48 entrants in the 400-meter hurdles.
NSU now sets its sights on winning a fourth straight MEAC outdoor title next Thursday through Saturday in Greensboro, N.C.
