GREENSBORO, N.C. - Freshman Darris Shelton (Hampton, Va.) leads the men's decathlon through five events and one day of competition at the 2009 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Irwin Belk Track.

Shelton has 3,609 points after Thursday's first day of competition. Dakari Taylor-Watson of Morgan State is second with 3,432 points.

NSU's Meredith Whitties (Petersburg, Va.) is currently in eighth with 3,109 points, and Algernon Cooper (Ettrick, Va.) is 11th with 2,928.

Decathlon events conclude on Friday morning.
