NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk State softball team will be the No. 3 seed in the southern division in the 2009 MEAC Softball Tournament. The tournament runs from Thursday, May 7 through Saturday, May 9 at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex in Ormond Beach, Fla.

The Spartans (21-23 overall, 6-6 MEAC) will open play against northern division second seed and reigning MEAC tournament champion Delaware State (22-20, 8-6) at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams met once this year with NSU winning 1-0 in eight innings in NSU's Spartan Clash Tournament on March 8.

In the 2008 tournament championship game, DSU defeated the Spartans 3-0 to win its first-ever MEAC Tournament title.
