NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State sophomore Philemon Kimutai (Eldoret, Kenya) was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference men's cross country athlete of the week, the league announced on Wednesday.
The first-year Spartan and University of Wyoming transfer placed second overall at the University of Virginia's Lou Onesty Invitational last Saturday. He completed the 8,000-meter (5-mile) course in a time of 25:00.10, his best of the year and the second-best time for a MEAC runner this season. Kimutai paced the Spartan men en route to their second-place finish at U.Va., ahead of teams such as UNC Greensboro and regionally-ranked George Mason.
Kimutai and the Spartans are back in action this Saturday at William & Mary's Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge in Williamsburg.
