NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State junior receiver Chris Bell (Norfolk, Va.) was named the MEAC Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Bell posted career highs with nine receptions for 213 yards and two scores in Saturday's 40-14 win over Bethune-Cookman. The 213 yards are the most by a MEAC receiver this season and the fifth-most by any Division I FCS player.
Bell's 213-yard output is also the most by a Spartan since Howard Gilmore's school-record 305 yards against Morgan State in 2003.
Bell had five catches for 144 yards in the first quarter alone as the Spartans (2-2, 1-1 MEAC) got out to a quick early lead. He caught a 62-yard TD pass in the first quarter and a 26-yard scoring pass in the third for his third and fourth touchdowns of the season.
The Penn State transfer is currently tied with South Carolina State's Tre Young for the MEAC-lead with 19 catches. Bell paces all MEAC wideouts with his 344 yards and four touchdowns.
