Homecoming Week Schedule
NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk State football team (2-4, 1-3 MEAC) returns home for the first time in five weeks to celebrate its 2010 homecoming by hosting the Florida A&M Rattlers (3-3, 2-1) this Saturday. Kickoff is at 2 p.m. at Dick Price Stadium.
NSU dropped its third straight game last week in heart-breaking fashion. The Spartans (2-4 overall, 1-3 MEAC) lost 7-6 at Hampton in the annual Battle of the Bay, with a missed extra point providing
the difference in score. The Spartans were led by senior running back
DeAngelo Branche (Norfolk, Va.), who ran for 132 yards on 25 carries and NSU's lone touchdown. Branche and sophomore
Takeem Hedgeman (Charlottesville, Va.) (nine carries, 56 yards) spearheaded a ground game which tallied 207 yards. The NSU defense also played well, limiting the Pirates to just 282 yards and seven points, the lowest total scored by an NSU opponent this season.
Florida A&M broke a two-game losing streak and evened its record at 3-3 overall with a 31-0 shutout victory over Savannah State last Saturday in Tallahassee. FAMU rushed for a season-high 327 yards in the win, led by senior Philip Sylvester's 153 yards and two scores. That was enough to earn Sylvester MEAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Antonio Lawrence added 63 yards and a TD, and Lavante Page had 49 yards and one score. The Rattler defense held the Tigers to just 164 yards of total offense while registering five sacks.

THE SERIES
• Florida A&M leads the all-time series with NSU, 11-1.
• The Spartans' only win in the series was a 33-27 victory at Bragg Stadium in Tallahassee in 2007.
• NSU is 0-5 against FAMU in games played at Dick Price Stadium. Each of the last two meetings have
been decided by three points (36-33 in OT, 2006; 31-28 in 2008).
QUICK HITS
• Branche needs just 42 yards rushing to reach 3,000 for his career. The only other player in school history to do that is all-time leading rusher LaRue Harrington (3,659).
• A win over FAMU would be NSU's second-ever over the Rattlers, and
Pete Adrian's second-ever over a Joe Taylor-coached team. NSU beat Hampton under Taylor's direction in 2007.
• The Spartans are 2-3 in homecoming games under coach Adrian, including a 41-6 win over Howard
last season.
