NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Liberty on Thursday afternoon at the NSU Tennis Complex.
The Spartans started well, with a win by the No. 1 doubles team of Arsenio Culver (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Ben Marks (Worcestershire, England). It was the fifth straight win for the pair. But the Spartans defaulted at No. 3 and the duo of Jonathan Sessom (Houston, Texas) and Keenan Ruff (Norfolk, Va.) lost at No. 2, giving the Flames (8-7) the doubles point.
Culver continued his solid play with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Siim Tuus at No. 1. The victory improved the Spartans' junior to 11-3 in singles action this season.
But Liberty earned straight-set wins at second through fifth singles and won by default at No. 6 to close out the match.
The Spartans host North Carolina Central at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the NSU Tennis Complex.
