RALEIGH, N.C.
– In one of the more dramatic races of the meet, Norfolk State's sprint medley team took first place by .01 of a second on Friday to highlight the efforts of the Spartan men's track team last weekend at the Raleigh Relays hosted by N.C. State.

The quartet of Kenneth Smith (Newport News, Va.), Thomas Speller (Chesapeake, Va.), Tyrell Moon (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Vincent Brown (Peachtree City, Ga.) finished in 3:24.64. Brown, running the anchor (800m) leg, briefly lost the lead but came back to edge St. Augustine's Johnny Shuping at the finish line. It was also a solid weekend for the NSU distance runners. Amos Kipkosgei (Eldoret, Kenya) led a trio of Spartans to break the 15-minute mark in the 5,000 meters. Kipkosgei placed 10th in 14:47.87. Josef Tessema (Springfield, Va.), who placed 14th in the 5,000 meters on Friday, came in fifth in the 1,500 on Saturday in 3:55.18.

Moon (16th, 48.32) and Smith (PR, 23rd in 48.69) also showed well in the 400 meters, which featured a total of 123 runners.

The Spartans are back on the track this Friday and Saturday at the Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary in Williamsburg.
