NORFOLK, Va. — Colgate third baseman Natalie Siedhof broke a 1-all tie with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to lead the Raiders to a 3-1 win over Norfolk State on Sunday afternoon in the 2010 Spartan Clash. Siedhof went 1-for-1 with a run, two RBI and a walk.
Colgate (5-1) got on the board first in the second inning on an RBI single by second baseman Melissa Babb-Renta. NSU (2-9) countered in the top of the third when center fielder Danielle Wright (Safety Harbor, Fla.) singled to left field and scored pitcher Elizabeth Castaneda (Montclair, Calif.).
Siedhof's homer gave the Raiders a two-run advantage heading in to the top of the seventh. The Spartans had two runners in scoring position with one out early in the inning, but second baseman Brianeisha Eure (Virginia Beach, Va.) flied out to left field and Wright went down swinging to end the game.
Jesse McCarrick earned the win for Colgate after pitching seven innings and allowing five hits and one unearned run. Castaneda took the loss for the Spartans after a five-hit, three-run outing. She tossed four and one-third innings and walked three batters.
At the plate, Babb-Renta went 2-for-4 with one RBI for Colgate, while Wright was 2-for-4 and drove in a run for NSU.
The Spartans travel to Charlottesville, Va. on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Virginia.
