Reyes, Dixon Lead Florida A&M Past NSU, 12-0

NORFOLK, Va. — Florida A&M pitcher Amanda Reyes pitched a five-inning, one-hit shutout and struck out seven batters, while teammate Tenisha Dixon went 3-for-4 and scored three runs to help the Lady Rattlers to a 12-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference win over Norfolk State on Sunday at the NSU Softball Field.

FAMU improved to 20-16 overall and 2-1 in the MEAC, while NSU fell to 9-18, 2-4.

The Lady Rattlers scored three runs in each of the first two innings and exploded for six in the top of the fifth.

The Spartans only managed one hit, a double to center field by Jeanette Sauceda (Ontario, Calif.) in the fourth inning, and had a season-high-tying five errors.

Spartan starter Elizabeth Castaneda (Montclair, Calif.) took the loss after pitching one inning and giving up four hits and five runs (one earned). Alyssa Velazquez (Aurora, Colo.) pitched the last four innings, allowing seven hits and seven runs (two earned).

The Spartans travel to the University of Delaware for a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader  on Wednesday.
