Artis Leads Spartans at the Sea Ray Relays

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.Jonee Artis (Chesapeake, Va.) turned in a third-place finish after clearing 5 feet, seven inches in the high jump at the 2010 Sea Ray Relays hosted by the University of Tennessee. It was the second consecutive week that Artis achieved that height.

Wanetta Kirby (Richmond, Va.) and Jennifer Chichester (Silver Spring, Md.) had the other top-10 finishes for the Spartans. Kirby was sixth in the long jump after hitting a mark of 19-3 ½ and Chichester was 10th in the 5,000 (18:04.52). Kirby also ran in the 200 (24.46) and the 100-meter hurdles (14.35).

In the 400, Dania Sanford (Marshall, Va.) ran a 56.52, while Allyssa Pickett (Hampton, Va.) ran a 1:03.77 in the 400-meter hurdles and Jamia Hutto (Orlando, Fla.) posted a time of 5:04.50 in the 1,500 meters.

Kaleena Gray (Coatesville, Pa.) had throws of 133-2 in the discus and 37-1 in the shot put. Tanisha Jenkins (Louisa, Va.) (37-2 ½), Jamia Hutto (Chesterfield, Va.) (37-1 ¾) and Danielle Drummer (Norfolk, Va.) (34-6 ¼) were the Spartans' top three finishers in the triple jump. 

NSU travels to Baltimore, Md. to participate in the Morgan State Legacy on Saturday.
