White Helps Delaware to Doubleheader Sweep of NSU Softball

NEWARK, Del. — University of Delaware first baseman Shannette White went a combined 6-for-6 with a triple, double and batted in two runs as the Blue Hens swept a doubleheader from Norfolk State on Wednesday afternoon at Delaware Field. The Blue Hens won 3-2 and 2-0.

In the first game, White drove in the first two runs of the game with a double to center field in the bottom of the second inning. Delaware (14-21-1) took a 3-0 lead after a sacrifice fly by shortstop Michelle Grap in the third inning.

Brianeisha Eure's (Virginia Beach, Va.) infield single in the top of the fifth scored Danielle Wright(Safety Harbor, Fla.) and got NSU on the board.

The Spartans tried to rally in the top of the seventh, but only managed one run. Jamie Raab (Houston, Tex.) led off the inning with a triple to left center field and scored two batters later on Candice Vasquez's (Montclair, Calif.) RBI groundout.

Ann Marie Pagano picked up the win after allowing four hits and one earned run in six and one-third innings. Alyssa Velazquez (Aurora, Colo.) gave up four hits and three runs (one earned) in six innings for the loss.

Amanda Stacevicz pitched a one-hit, complete game shutout in the nightcap. Rebecca Barnes (Hampton, Va.) had NSU's (9-20) only hit, a double to center field in the top of the seventh inning. The Blue Hens tallied seven hits and scored a run in the third and sixth innings.

Elizabeth Castaneda (Montclair, Calif.) fell to 2-3 on the season after pitching four innings in relief. She gave up four hits, two runs and walked three batters.

NSU returns to conference play with a three-game series at South Carolina State. The teams play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday and a single game at noon on Sunday.
