Massenburg, Field Athletes Fare Well at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Junior Aramis Massenburg (Ettrick, Va.) and rookie thrower Frede Spellman (Chesapeake, Va.) both posted season-best efforts in their respective events over the weekend as the Spartan men's track team participated at the 2010 Penn Relays.

Massenburg knocked two-tenths of a second off his season-best time in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 13th place in 14.23 seconds. Spellman threw an outdoor season and collegiate-best 50 feet, 11 inches to place 11th in the college shot put.

Also in field events, senior Brett Dodd (San Antonio, Texas) finished ninth in the Eastern section and tied his season-best height of 15 feet, 5 inches.

Among other running events, sophomore Amos Kipkosgei (Eldoret, Kenya) ran a time of 14:32.19 and placed eighth out of 41 runners, and the 4x100 meter relay team advanced to Saturday's college finals and finished fifth (41.19 time in the heats, 41.35 in the final).

The Spartans are off this week as they prepare for the 2010 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, May 6-8 at North Carolina A&T.
