Final Results
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Jonee Artis (Chesapeake, Va.) cleared 5 feet, seven inches in the high jump, while Shanneka Claiborne (Ettrick, Va.) finished the 100 meter dash in 11.69 as they both turned in first-place finishes for the Norfolk State women's track team at the William & Mary Colonial Relays this past weekend.
In the high jump, each of the top four finishers cleared 5-7, but Artis took gold after clearing the bar in the fewest attempts of the four, while teammate She'Anna Mitchell (Hampton, Va.) was second. Claiborne's time in the 100 meters is the 15th fastest time in the Eastern Region this season.
The Spartans, who finished 11th of the 29 participating teams, got 28 points in the high jump and 100 meters alone.
Claiborne also ran the 200 (25.20) and was a part of the 4x100 team that finished third in 46.11.
Tanisha Jenkins (Louisa, Va.) and Alaina Hite (Chesterfield, Va.) represented the Spartans in both the long and triple jumps. Jenkins had jumps of 17-7 in the long jump and 37-7 ½ in the triple jump. Hite finished behind Jenkins, hitting 16-5 ¼ in the long jump and 37-1 ½ in the triple jump.
In the 1,500 meters, Jennifer Chichester (Silver Spring, Md.) finished in 4:42.35, while Kellen Rutto (Eldoret, Kenya) (4:58.64) and Syeeda Gee (Philadelphia, Pa.) (5:35.01) were the Spartans' second and third finishers, respectively.
The Spartans head to Knoxville, Tenn. on Thursday to participate in the Sea Ray Relays.
