NSU Softball Drops MEAC Doubleheader at N.C. A&T, 3-1, 7-2

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Norfolk State softball team dropped a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader against North Carolina A&T on Saturday at the Aggie Softball Complex. N.C. A&T (24-22, 7-1 MEAC) won 3-1, 7-2.

In both games, the Lady Aggies scored first and held NSU (12-26, 3-8 MEAC) scoreless until the seventh inning. N.C A&T posted a run in the third, fourth and sixth innings of the first game. The Spartans' lone run in game one came on a sacrifice fly by Gipsy Ramirez(LaVerne, Calif.) that scored Brianeisha Eure(Virginia Beach, Va.) from third with one out.

The Lady Aggies wasted no time in getting on the board in the second game. They recorded three runs in the first inning and brought in three more in the fifth. A run by Hope Fletcher gave N.C. A&T a 7-0 lead heading into the top of the seventh.

Jamie Raab(Houston, Texas) singled through the left side to lead off the seventh and scored on Danielle Wright's (Safety Harbor, Fla.) triple to right field. Wright got home safely one batter later when Meghan Ramsey(Virginia Beach, Va.) grounded out to the first baseman.

Sasha Philpot earned the win in game one after pitching a seven-hit, one-run complete game. Jennifer Luper won game two, allowing four hits and two earned runs in seven innings. Alyssa Velazquez (Aurora, Colo.) suffered both losses for NSU. In the first game, she gave up eight hits and three runs (two earned) in five innings. Velazquez yielded six hits and four runs (three earned) in two and two-third innings of game two.

The teams conclude the series with a single game at noon on Sunday.
