Final Results

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Norfolk State women's track team finished second behind Hampton at the 2010 MEAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Irwin Belk Track on the North Carolina A&T campus. Hampton finished with 168.5 points and the Spartans had 149.66 points.

The NSU women led for much of the meet, but Hampton overcame the Spartans late with wins in the 200 meters and steeplechase to deny the Spartan women of their first-ever indoor-outdoor sweep.

NSU junior Wanetta Kirby (Richmond, Va.) won the high jump with a top leap of 5 feet, 6 inches. Junior Jennifer Chichester (Silver Spring, Md.) had the Spartans' other top finish on Saturday with a second-place effort in the steeplechase. Kirby was also fourth in the 100 hurdles (13.97) and seventh in the 200 (24.84). Chichester came in fourth in 4:44.09 in the 1,500.

Sophomore Alaina Hite (Chesterfield, Va.) and junior Tanisha Jenkins (Louisa, Va.) finished third and sixth, respectively in the triple jump, while senior Jonee Artis (Chesapeake, Va.) and sophomore She'Anna Mitchell (Hampton, Va.) each cleared 5-4 ¼ to tie for second in the high jump.

Sophomore Shanneka Claiborne (Ettrick, Va.) finished fourth in the 100 in 11.76 and was followed by senior Tierra Flowers (Coatesville, Pa.) who was fifth (11.80). The Spartans got another top-five finish from senior Allyssa Pickett (Hampton, Va.) in the 400 hurdles (1:02.43).

The Spartans will have athletes competing at the 2010 NCAA East Region meet on May 28-29, which will also be held at N.C. A&T.
