NORFOLK, Va.
- Sporting a 2-0 record on the young season, the Norfolk State women's basketball team will hit the road for the next two games in the city of Spartanburg, S.C. The Spartans will take on Wofford Saturday at 2 p.m., and then stay in town to face the Spartans of USC Upstate Monday at 7 p.m.

For the third season in a row, Wofford and Norfolk State will battle it out on the hardwood as the Terriers and Spartans tip-off at Wofford's Benjamin Johnson Arena. This will mark the third all-time meeting between the two schools, as Wofford won the first-ever meeting in overtime, 77-75, at home on Nov. 18, 2009. The Spartans got a measure of revenge last year at Echols Hall with a convincing 66-51 victory.

The contest against USC Upstate will mark the fourth all-time meeting between the two sets of Spartans, a series NSU leads 3-0, but the first meeting since the two teams met in the Division II playoffs at the end of the 1992-93 and 1993-94 seasons. Both times NSU defeated USC Upstate (then called South Carolina-Spartanburg) on the way to back-to-back Regional Final (Elite 8) appearances.

Wofford comes into the contest with a 2-0 record following wins over Kennesaw State on the road and North Carolina Central at home. USC Upstate owns an 0-3 record heading into its game Friday at Radford, with two of those losses to power schools North Carolina and Vanderbilt as well as a setback to North Greenville.

Media Coverage: The home of Wofford athletics, www.woffordterriers.com, will provide a live statistical feed for the contest. USC Upstate will also provide live stats as well as a live video feed through its conference's website.

Last Time Out: NSU overcame a slow start - a six-point lead at the half - to defeat Chowan, 60-43, Wednesday evening in the Spartans' home opener at Joseph Echols Hall. Whitney Long was the only player in double figures for NSU with 19, as she tallied nine of the team's 19 baskets on the evening.

The Spartans hit just 30.2 percent from the floor for the game, while Chowan fared worse at 20.3 percent, hitting just 12 field goals on the ngiht. Rachel Gordon and Marian Brooks grabbed 13 and 12 rebounds, respectively, as NSU held a 61-43 edge on the glass. The teams combined for 59 free throw attempts, including 38 in the second half.

Light 'em Up: NSU's second half blitz against Texas Southern allowed the Spartans to finish with a 56.6 percent shooting clip for the game, the best mark by NSU in the Division I era from 1997-98 until now. Previously, a 54.8 percent clip against North Carolina A&T on March 5, 2009 had stood as the best D-I mark.

Piling Up the Points: The 80 total points scored against Texas Southern marked NSU's highest point total in 87 games dating back to a 93-84 loss to Howard on March 3, 2008.

Stout Defense: The reverse was true in the next game against Chowan, as NSU gave up just 43 points, the fewest by a Spartan opponent since Bethune-Cookman scored 41 in a 72-41 NSU win on Feb. 7, 2005.

Hold 'em Down: NSU limited Texas Southern to 29.7 percent shooting, the lowest total by an opponent since St. Paul's hit just 28.8 percent on Nov. 13, 2010. The last time the Spartans held a Division I opponent to a worse shooting performance occurred on March 7, 2007, a 63-55 loss to Delaware State. The Hornets picked up the win despite hitting just 28.6 percent for the game that day.

The Spartans did even better against Chowan, as the Hawks hit just 20.3 percent from the floor and made just 12 field goals. You have to go back more than seven years to find the last time NSU held an opponent to those low of numbers. On Feb. 28, 2004, Delaware State made just 12-of-60 from the floor for a 20.0 percent clip in a 56-43 NSU win.

Cleaning the Glass: Thanks to 23 offensive boards, the Spartans totaled 61 rebounds against Chowan, the most since grabbing 65 against Howard on Feb. 4, 2008. Only seven times in the Division I era has NSU totaled 61 or more rebounds.

NSU also tallied 23 offensive boards against Howard last season on Jan. 17, but before that, the last time the Spartans had more than 23 offensive rebounds occurred Jan. 24, 2009. On that day at South Carolina State, NSU snatched up 26 offensive boards.

Corbo's Big Day: After leading the team in scoring as a freshman, including five double-digit scoring efforts in her last six games, Rae Corbo continued where she left off, tallying a career-high 26 points against Texas Southern on 9-of-14 shooting.

NSU to Stream All Home Basketball Games: The NSU Athletics Department is proud to announce that for the second year in a row, all NSU home men's and women's basketball games will be streamed live via nsuspartans.com. Click on the All-Access Video Streaming link under the Inside Athletics tab to either purchase a pass the day of the game or to purchase a season pass for all 13 home women's basketball games.

Up Next: NSU will return home to face Virginia Union following the Thanksgiving Holiday on Nov. 26 at 4 p.m. at Echols Hall.
