FARMVILLE, Va. – The Norfolk State-Longwood women's basketball game scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday at Longwood's Willett Hall was cancelled until further notice after an official collapsed on the court and had to be taken to the hospital.
With NSU holding a 4-3 lead, play was stopped with 17:30 on the clock after the official fell to the floor on NSU's offensive side of the court. The teams were sent to their respective locker rooms, and medical personnel on hand performed CPR, including the use of an on-site defibrillator.
The Prince Edward Rescue Squad later arrived and continued to perform CPR as the official was taken to Centra Southside Community Hospital at approximately 2:20 p.m. The official was later airlifted to the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) in Richmond shortly before 4 p.m., according to a Centra Southside Community Hospital spokesperson.
The official's name and condition are being withheld at this time.
The game will be made up at a later date if possible.
NSU will return to Joseph Echols Hall for its next game Friday against Radford at 6 p.m.
