NORFOLK, Va. – Junior
Arsenio Culver won in both singles and doubles for the Norfolk State men's tennis team during a 6-1 loss to Temple Saturday afternoon at the NSU Tennis Courts.
Culver defeated Filip Rams, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1 singles to give NSU (2-9) its lone point of the afternoon. Culver and junior
Ben Marks beat Rams and Andrey Morozov, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles as well.
Marks nearly won at No. 2 singles, rebounding from a 6-4 loss in the first set to win the second, 7-5, over Kacper Rams. Marks, though, lost by a 10-5 margin in the third-set tiebreaker to give Rams the victory for Temple (8-4).
In the other singles matches, junior
Christian Romanzini fell to Morozov, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 3 singles, while freshman
Kent Austin suffered a 6-3, 6-0 defeat at the hands of Dmitry Vizhunov at the fourth slot. Junior Jonatham Sessom lost to Stanisla Stekoshikov, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5 singles, and freshman
Brian Bullock had a similar fate against Mansur Gishkaev, 6-1, 6-2, at the sixth spot.
Vizhunov and Kacper Rams teamed up to down Bullock and Sessom at No. 2 doubles, 8-2, and Gishkaev and Taylor Hairston downed Austin and Romanzini at the third doubles slot, 8-5.
NSU will face James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va., next Friday at 2 p.m.
