Spartan Men Start Fast at Sea Ray Relays

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Sprinter Sean Holston, hurdler Aramis Massenburg and distance runner Josef Tessema all earned top-five finishes in their respective events on Friday as the Spartan men's track & field team began its weekend at the Sea Ray Relays hosted by the University of Tennessee.

Holston was the top collegiate finisher in the 400 meters, placing second overall in 46.76 seconds. Massenburg and Tessema, meanwhile, established new season-bests in the 110-meter hurdles and 1,500 meters, respectively. Massenburg placed fifth overall and third among collegiate runners in a time of 14.03 seconds. Tessema placed fourth overall and third among collegians in a time of 3 minutes, 52.79 seconds. That time was less than a second off his personal-best, set last year at the same event.

In other events on Friday, sophomores Ramaan Ansley and Keith Nkrumah both posted season-best times in the 100 meters. Ansley posted a time of 10.75 seconds to take ninth, and Nkrumah ran a 10.82 and was 11th. Ansley finished 11th in the 200 meters a short while later, running a season-best 21.82.

In field events, Kendrick Richardson (134 feet, 7 inches) and Ian Copeland (133-10) finished eighth and ninth, overall, in the open section of the discus throw.

Field events continue starting at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, and running events commence at 12:30 p.m. The only running events remaining are the relays.
