GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A season-best time by the 4x400 meter relay team and another solid day for sophomore Darris Shelton capped the final day of competition for the Spartan men's track and field team at the Florida Relays.
The NSU 4x400 relay team of Tyrell Moon, Sean Holston, Keith Nkrumah and Vincent Brown shaved two seconds off the Spartans' season-best time in that event from last week's Raleigh Relays. The quartet posted a time of 3 minutes, 10.06 seconds to finish 13th out of 47 teams. NSU was the 10th-fastest college time while also finishing behind three professional teams Saturday.
Shelton capped his weekend by taking ninth place in the triple jump. He was the seventh-highest collegiate finisher with his personal-best triple jump of 49 feet, 10.5 inches into a slight headwind. That came one day after he placed third in the long jump.
In other field events, sophomore John James established a new season-best with a high jump of 6 feet, 8.75 inches. That was good enough for 15th place out of 25 competitors.
The Spartan men are off next weekend before competing the following week at the Sea Ray Relays hosted by the University of Tennessee.
