Spartans Post Dominating 7-0 Win Against Chowan

Match Results

NORFOLK, Va.
– The Norfolk State men's tennis team dropped just two games in singles play and three in doubles on the way to a dominating 7-0 victory over Chowan Monday afternoon at the NSU Tennis Courts.

NSU posted complete sweeps of four of the six singles matches as the Spartans improved to 4-12 on the year. Chowan saw its record drop to 6-11 overall on an absolute blustery day.

In doubles action, juniors Arsenio Culver and Ben Marks earned an 8-1 win over Bjorn Blythe and Adam Moneypenny at No. 1 doubles, while fellow juniors Jonathan Sessom and Christian Romanzini also won by an 8-1 score against Scott Van Eck and Jaqwese Williams at No. 2 doubles.

At the No. 3 doubles slot, freshman Kent Austin and Brian Bullock posted the third 8-1 victory of the day, downing Juan Winstead and George Zeidan.

Sessom and Romanzini competed at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, and grabbed two of the four sweeps on the day. Sessom downed Blythe, while Romanzini handled Zeidan by the 6-0, 6-0 score. Austin did the same to Williams at the No. 5 slot, while Bullock also won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 singles over Winstead.

Not to be outdone, Culver wasted little time in taking care of Moneypenny at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0, and Marks also dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win against Van Eck at the second singles slot.

The Spartans will return to their home court Wednesday as they host Virginia Wesleyan at 3 p.m.
