NORFOLK, Va. – Freshman
Jessica Johnson of the Norfolk State volleyball team was named the MEAC Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
Johnson led NSU to a 3-1 win over Morgan State on Friday at Joseph Echols Hall, tallying a double-double of 15 kills and 13 digs. She hit .467 for the match with just one attack error and also added two service aces and two digs in NSU's only match of the week.
The victory improved NSU's conference record to 6-2 on the year and 10-18 overall. The Spartans currently sit second in the MEAC Northern Division standings.
On the season Johnson ranks second on the team with 2.04 kills and third with 1.71 digs per set. She leads the Spartans and stands 10th in the league with 0.35 service aces and has also contributed 19 blocks and 15 assists.
It marks the second straight honor Johnson has received after being named the MEAC Rookie of the Week last week.
The Spartans will take on Howard Friday at 7 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
