NSU Set to Face East Carolina in Pirate Invitational

Game Notes 

NORFOLK, Va.
- The Norfolk State women's basketball team will take on East Carolina in the ECU Pirate Invitational at 2 p.m. on Sat., Nov. 24 at Minges Coliseum in Greenville, N.C.  This is the first of six consecutive road games for the Spartans.

NSU will face Appalachian State in the Pirate Invitational on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Last Time Out: NSU (1-2) suffered a 68-53 loss to Texas Southern on Monday at Joseph Echols Hall.  The Spartans had two players in double figures: Kashay Barnes led NSU with 11 points and Quineshia Leonard added 10.

All-Time Series: NSU and ECU are tied 1-1.  The last time these teams faced each other was Nov. 19, 1999, and the Spartans came out victorious with a 64-60 win over the Pirates.

About East Carolina: ECU (3-1) is coming off of a 79-23 win over Converse.  Whitny Edwards led the way for the Pirates with 17 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. 

Corbo Out for the Season: Rae Corbo tore her ACL in the second half of the game against USC Upstate on Nov. 15.  She is scheduled to have surgery later this month.

Scoring Leaders: Kashay Barnes leads NSU in scoring averaging 12 points per game.

Leonard On a Roll: Quineshia Leonard had 14 points and 11 rebounds against USC Upstate on Nov. 15, earning her third career and second-straight double-double of the season.

Defensive Minded: Rachel Gordon tallied 14 rebounds in the Spartans 68-53 loss to Texas Southern on Nov. 19.  Gordon currently leads the MEAC in rebounding, averaging 13.7 rebounds per game.

Winning the Rebounding Battle:  NSU outrebounded Texas Southern, 38-34, on Nov. 19, with Rachel Gordon leading the way with 14 rebounds.

Cracking the top 10: Recca Trice is in seventh place all-time in the NSU record book for career assists. Her 347 career helpers now puts her 10 away from tying Kiersten Portlock for sixth all time.
