NSU Hosts Chowan on Wednesday

NORFOLK, Va.
- The Norfolk State women's basketball team is looking to snap its eight-game losing streak when they host Chowan on Wednesday at Joseph Echols Hall.  Tip-off is at 6 p.m.

Last Time Out: UNC Greensboro (2-6, 0-2) upended NSU (1-8, 0-2), 71-63, on Dec. 15 at Fleming Gymnasium in Greensboro, N.C.  This was the Spartans eighth consecutive loss.  Rachel Gordon had her second double-double of the season and led NSU with 15 points and 16 rebounds.

All-Time Series: NSU leads the series with Chowan, 1-0.  Last season the Spartans dominated Chowan, 60-43.  Whitney Long posted 19 points and three steals for NSU.  Talaya Lynch led Chowan with 14 points and seven rebounds.

About Chowan: Chowan (0-7, 0-0) is coming off of a 60-45 loss to UNC Pembroke on Dec. 12.  Janelle Murphy led all scorers with 23 points, six rebounds and two steals.

Defensive Minded: Rachel Gordon tallied 16 rebounds in the Spartans 71-63 loss to UNC Greensboro on Dec. 15.  Gordon currently leads the MEAC in rebounding, averaging 12.1 rebounds per game.

Winning the Rebounding Battle:  NSU outrebounded UNC Greensboro, 51-39, on Dec. 15, with Rachel Gordon leading the way with 16 rebounds.

Scoring Leaders: Kashay Barnes leads NSU in scoring averaging 10.1 points per game followed by Ebony Brown, who is averaging 9.3 points per game.

Cracking the top 10:  Recca Trice's seven assists in the game against Appalachian State moved her into sixth place all-time in the NSU record book for career assists.  Trice has 384 career assists and 52 assists so far this season.

MEAC, NCAA Leaderboard: As a team NSU currently ranks in the top 5 in six different categories in the MEAC, while NSU players rank in the top 5 in six different categories, including Rachel Gordon, who leads the league in rebounding at 12.1 boards per game.  Gordon also currently ranks 9th in the NCAA in rebounding.  Recca Trice is ranked 30th in the nation in assist-turnover ratio.

Owning the Paint:  NSU outscored UNC Greensboro in the paint, 30-10, on Dec. 15.  Last season NSU dominated the inside scoring, averaging 6.8 more points in the paint per game. Only Monmouth, Howard, Hampton (first meeting) and Bethune-Cookman (first meeting) scored more points in the paint than NSU in a game last year.
