RECAPPING UMES
Additional notes from NSU's win over UMES on Saturday:
• NSU set a new school Division I-era record with its 17th victory of the year. That tops NSU's previous best D-I season, a 16-15 mark in 2007-08, Anthony Evans' first year as head coach.
• Chris McEachin tied his career high with 20 points. He also scored 20 at St. Francis on Dec. 23.
• UMES committed 24 turnovers, tying Elizabeth City State for the most committed by an NSU opponent this season.
• UMES outrebounded NSU 43-24. The minus-19 defi cit is NSU's largest of the season to date.
• The Spartans made their final 16 free throws over the last four minutes of the game.
• Rodney McCauley scored a season-high 12 points. It was his first time scoring in double figures this season, and one shy of his career high of 13 scored at Rutgers last year.
HSRN TO BROADCAST NSU-HU GAMES
The NSU-Hampton basketball doubleheader will be broadcast by the Heritage Sports Radio Network on Sirius Satellite Radio channel 137. This will be the first time any NSU sports team will appear on HSRN, which began operation in 2006 and specializes in the broadcasting of historically black college and university athletic events. In addition to being
available on Sirius, HSRN also has a mobile app available at www.tunein.com. In between games Saturday, HSRN will present the inaugural Conaway Cup to the NSU football team for finishing first in the organization's HBCU Division I poll for 2011. The award is named after the late LeCounte Conaway, former director of communications and sideline reporter for HSRN who spent more than 30 years working in the field of communications in the HBCU realm.
1,000/1,000 CLUB:
#Kyle O'Quinn# is just 21 rebounds away from joining an exclusive club at NSU: the 1,000-point/1,000-rebound club. Just six players in NSU history have scored 1,000 career points and grabbed at least 1,000 career rebounds, and none since Derrick Bryant (1992-95). O'Quinn would be the first in NSU's Division I era.
