McEachin, O'Quinn Nab Weekly MEAC Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State senior swingman Chris McEachin was named MEAC Player of the Week and teammate Kyle O'Quinn earned MEAC Defensive Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.

McEachin averaged 23.5 points in the Spartans' wins over Maryland Eastern Shore and Hampton last week. McEachin tied his previous career high with 20 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range, against the Hawks. He was also a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line.

McEachin followed that up with a new career high of 27 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including 5-of-7 from long range, in the win over Hampton. McEachin was 6-of-6 from the charity stripe and added five rebounds and three steals in the victory. For the week, he shot 100 percent from the foul line and 61.5 percent from beyond the arc to earn his first career weekly MEAC honors.

O'Quinn, meanwhile, picked up his third Defensive Player of the Week award this season. He averaged 12.5 rebounds, 4.0 blocks and 1.0 steal in the two wins. He tallied seven rebounds, five blocks and two steals at UMES, then followed that up with 18 rebounds and four blocks against Hampton. O'Quinn also averaged 18.0 points per game for the week.
