NORFOLK, Va. – For the third time in four matches the Norfolk State men's tennis team posted a sweep of its opponent, this time a 9-0 win over Virginia Wesleyan Friday afternoon at the Everett Tennis Center.
The Spartans won all six singles matches in straight sets and easily won the doubles matches as well to improve to 3-6 on the season. Virginia Wesleyan played its first match of the 2012 season against NSU.
For the first time all season, senior
Arsenio Culver and freshman
Igor Braga competed together in doubles, and the duo came out victorious over Brian Luke and Ryan Sadinski, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles. Senior

Daniel Grauel also won by an 8-2 score at the second doubles position over Jamie Griffin and Donnie Greathouse.
In the third match of the day, senior
Roosevelt Cooper and freshman
Shaheed Mourillon-Swift handled Steven Bond and Griffin Graves at the third doubles spot, 8-1. Cooper and Mourillon-Swift also won at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively to help the Spartans pull off the sweep.
Cooper faced Bond again and earned the victory over his Marlin opponent, 6-4, 6-3, while Mourillon-Swift easily took care of Graves, 6-0, 6-1, at the sixth spot. At the No. 4 position, meanwhile, Grauel downed Greathouse, 6-3, 6-0.
Culver and Braga finished perfect in their singles matches, as Culver swept Sadinski, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 2 position. Braga also won by a 6-0, 6-0 score in his match against Griffin at the third position. Marks faced Luke at the top singles spot, and after surviving the first set, 7-5, Marks had an easier time in the second set, 6-2.
NSU will turn right around and host Longwood Saturday at noon in the first match of the season at the NSU Tennis Courts.
