NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men's track team totaled seven victories and a slew of personal and season-best performances in the NSU College Relays on Saturday afternoon at Dick Price Stadium.
Vincent Brown had perhaps the most impressive performance, leading wire to wire and shaving more than a second off his PR by winning the 800 meters in 1 minute, 51.13 seconds. This marks the third time this outdoor season Brown has bested his PR, which stood at 1:52.23 entering the weekend.
Teammate
Josef Tessema helped NSU sweep the middle distance races by running a personal-best time of 3:50.46 to win the 1,500 meters. Teammate
Nathnael Meseret was second in 3:57.73.
Junior
Amos Kipkosgei led a 1-2-3 sweep of the 3,000 meter steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 9:48.41
Other victories were turned in by
Theo Duncan in the shot put (48 feet, 8 inches),
John James in the high jump (season-best 6-10.75),
Sean Holston in the 400 (47.38) and the 4x100 meter relay team of Holston,
Aramis Massenburg,
James Taylor and
Keith Nkrumah (40.48).
Massenburg came within .02 of his own school record in the 110 hurdles. He ran a time of 13.65 to take second place behind Dominic Berger of adidas (13.51).
Though he didn't win, senior
Rashad Cannon topped his season-best long jump by nearly nine inches. He placed second with a top jump of 24-11.75, topping his 24-3 from the Florida Relays.
Kenneth Smith also ran a PR, running a solid time of 21.24 to finish tied for sixth in a deep field of collegians and professionals in the 200.
The Spartans return to action next weekend at Morgan State's Legacy Meet.
