NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State baseball team will face cross-town foe Old Dominion this Tuesday night, April 17, at Harbor Park in downtown Norfolk. First pitch is slated for 6:15 p.m., and gates open at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets are $7 and can be purchased through the NSU athletics department and ticket office, or at the park the night of the game. Media interested in attending should contact the NSU or ODU sports information offices to arrange credentials.
Fans who can't make it to the game can view NSU's live webcast at www.nsuspartans.com/showcase.
The game was originally slated to be played at Marty L. Miller Field on the NSU campus, but was moved to Harbor Park, home of the Triple-A Norfolk Tides, when the Tides had to pull out of their yearly exhibition against the Spartans.
NSU won the earlier meeting between the teams this season, a 7-5 decision at ODU on March 28. Beginning in 2013, the teams will play three times during the season, once each on their respective campuses and once at Harbor Park. The date for the 2013 game at Harbor Park will be announced at a later time.
In addition to augmenting the schools' yearly series, the Harbor Park game will serve as a fundraiser for both programs. Both schools will keep the revenue they generate from advance ticket sales, and split the walk-up sales from the day of the game.
“Playing against Old Dominion at Harbor Park presents a great chance for both of our programs to gain greater exposure locally,” NSU head coach Claudell Clark said. “I expect the game to be well attended due to the large fan bases on both sides, and I definitely see the game turning into a hard-fought annual contest. We are very grateful to the Tides organization for agreeing to host this event at their first-class facility.”
