BALTIMORE, Md. – Junior
Keith Nkrumah clocked a new personal record time of 13.69 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles on Saturday at the Morgan State Legacy Meet at Hughes Stadium.
Nkrumah, who ran a preliminary time of 14.12 seconds, blazed to the top finish among collegiate athletes in the finals. Only Dominic Berger, representing adidas, ran faster (13.55). Nkrumah's time is .25 faster than his previous best and moves him into the top 10 in the NCAA East Region.
Elsewhere on the track, junior
Vincent Rono won the 5,000 meters in a time of 15 minutes, 24.77 seconds. That time was more than 23 seconds ahead of runner-up Christian Smooth of Morgan State.
The Spartans notched a 1-2 sweep of the 1,500 meters. Senior
Josef Tessema took the title in 3:54.57, and rookie
Nathnael Meseret ran a PR of 3:55.28 to place second.
Sophomore
Quentin Parker also took home a top-five finish, placing fourth in the 400 meter hurdles in 54.34 seconds.
In field events, junior
John James took a second-place finish in the high jump. Both James and Rico Taylor of UMES cleared 6 feet, 9.75 inches, but Taylor won based on fewer misses.
A portion of the NSU men's team will participate this week in the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa., the team's final meet before the MEAC Outdoor Championship in Greensboro, N.C., May 3-5.
