NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk State women's basketball team is still looking for its first MEAC win of the season as they take on Morgan State on Monday in Joseph Echols Hall. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. This is the second of three consecutive home games for the Spartans.

Last Time Out: The Spartans (2-14, 0-5) suffered a 56-51 loss to Coppin State on Jan. 19 in Joseph Echols Hall. Junior Aivah Parham led NSU with 12 points and six rebounds. The Spartans shot 36.7 (18-of-49) percent from the floor on the night while the Lady Eagles were held to 30.6 (19-of-62) percent shooting. Sophomore Ebony Brown had 11 points and junior Rachel Gordon was just shy of a double-double as she finished the night with eight points and eight rebounds.
Shawntae Payne led Coppin State with 18 points, 12 of which came from behind the arc. Leola Spotwood tallied 11 points and eight rebounds in the win over NSU.
All-Time Series: NSU leads the series with Morgan State, 15-12. The Spartans defeated Morgan State last season 76-75.
About Morgan State: The Lady Bears (5-12, 2-2) are coming off of a 66-60 loss to Hampton on Jan. 19 at the Convocation Center in Hampton, Va. Morgan State shot 27.9 (17-of-61) percent from the floor and were led by Bianca Jarrett, who led all scorers with 31 points and 10 rebounds.
Last Year Against Morgan State: On Jan.14 the Spartans came out with a 76-75 win over the Lady Bears the Hill Field House in Baltimore, Md. NSU shot 39.2 (29-of-74) percent from the floor while Morgan State shot 43.1 (28-of-65) percent. NSU had a collective effort in the win as Whitney Long led the way with 16 points and five rebounds, Rae Corbo had 15 points and four assists, Quineshia Leonard tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds, Batavia Owens finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Omara Parker led the Lady Bears with 19 points and five rebounds. Three other Coppin State players reached double-figures including Tracey Carrington, who had 15 points and six rebounds, Keirah Hicks, 12 points, and Moneshia Davis, who had 10 points.
On Jan. 28 Morgan State defeated NSU at Joseph Echols Hall, 75-68. The Lady Bears shot 41.1 (23-of-56) percent while the Spartans were held to 34.2 (25-of-73) percent shooting. Whitney Long led NSU with 18 points and five steals while teammates Rachel Gordon and Batavia Owens recorded double-doubles. Gordon had 16 points and 19 rebounds while Owens finished with 13 points and 16 rebounds. Omara Parker led Morgan State with 17 points and six rebounds. Three other players from Morgan State finished in double-figures including Chyress Lockhart (16 pts.), Dekeisha Mathis (15 pts.), and Moneshia Davis (13 pts, 6 rebs.).
Scoring Leaders: Kashay Barnes leads NSU in scoring averaging 10.1 points per game followed by Rachel Gordon, who is averaging 9.0 points per game. Barnes scored a career-high 25 points in the Spartans overtime loss to UMES on Jan. 12.
Cracking the top 10: Recca Trice's seven assists in the game against Appalachian State moved her into sixth place all-time in the NSU record book for career assists. Trice has 89 assists on the season and her 421 career assists puts her seven away from tying Dekisha Thompson for fifth all-time.
MEAC, NCAA Leaderboard: As a team NSU currently ranks in the top 5 in six different categories in the MEAC, while NSU players rank in the top 5 in five different categories, including Rachel Gordon, who leads the league in rebounding at 11.5 boards per game. Gordon also currently ranks 9th in the NCAA in rebounding. Recca Trice is tied for first in the league for assists and is ranked 34th in the nation in assists per games.
