Leonard and Corbo Lead Spartans Past Wofford 67-59

NORFOLK, Va. – Quineshia Leonard and Rae Corbo each scored 14 points to lead Norfolk State past Wofford 67-59 on Sunday afternoon at Joseph Echols Hall. Corbo has scored in double-figures in all four games this season.

The Spartans improve to 2-2 on the season as Wofford falls to 1-3.

NSU jumped out to a 10-6 lead with 16:37 remaining in the first half after Leonard scored on a layup. Leonard shot 6-of-10 from the field on the afternoon.

Jordan Frazier knocked down a jumper on the other end to cap a 12-9 run for the Terriers, but they continued to trail 19-18 with 11:11 left before halftime. Frazier led all scorers with 20 points.

Freshman Logan Powell scored her first bucket of the game on a layup with 8:55 on the clock. The Spartans continued to lead Wofford, 23-18.

Once again Frazier hit another jumper with 8:33 to go in the half to bring Wofford within two points 23-21. Frazier shot 7-of-19 from the floor and was perfect at the line (5-of-5).

NSU led by as many as 15 points after freshman Kieera Basey nailed a 3-pointer to make the score 36-21 with 1:47 left in the first half.

Wofford went over seven minutes without a field-goal before getting a basket inside from Lauren Kirby. Wofford trailed NSU 36-23 with 1:06 remaining in the half.

NSU scored the last points of the half when Corbo hit a jumper with two seconds left to send the Spartans into halftime with a 38-23 lead over Wofford.

The Terriers came out hot in the second half as Logan Morris drained a 3-pointer from the corner to cap a 17-4 run by Wofford. Morris' 3-pointer tied the game at 42 with 14:18 remaining in the game.

Junior Ebony Brown got the jumper on the other end to spark a 12-5 run for NSU. Corbo ended the run with a 3-pointer with 8:21 left to make the score 54-47.

Wofford continued to fight, but the Spartans proved to be too much. The Terriers scored their last field-goal on a layup from Ashton Fleming with 2:48 left 61-57.

NSU finished the game shooting 35.1 percent (26-of-74) on the afternoon. The Spartans shot a season high 91.7 percent (11-of-12) from the free-throw line. NSU also outrebounded Wofford, 50-29.

Basey and Powell contributed a career-high of eight points each. Powell also tallied eight rebounds. Senior forward Rachel Gordon had six points and 15 rebounds. With her 15 boards, Gordon moved into ninth place all-time in career rebounding at NSU. She now has 768 total and needs two more rebounds to move into eighth place.

Wofford went 19-of-52 (36.5 percent) from the field and shot 93.3 percent (14-of-15) from the line.

The Spartans will head to San Antonio, Texas on Friday to face UT-Pan American in the UTSA Thanksgiving Tournament. Game time is at 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
