NORFOLK, Va. - The Spartans return to nonconference play on Tuesday as they welcome the Pirates of East Carolina University to Joseph Echols Hall. The game is set to begin at 6 p.m.

All-Time Series: East Carolina leads the series with NSU, 2-1. The last time the Spartans defeated ECU was on Nov. 19, 1999. NSU came out with a 64-60 victory over the Pirates.
Last Time Out: Junior forward Ebony Brown tallied a season-high 20 points to lead Norfolk State past Bethune-Cookman 74-61 at Joseph Echols Hall on Dec. 7.
B-CU never led in the game and the last bucket for the Lady Wildcats came on a 3-pointer from Gibson with three minutes left to play with the score at 66-55.
The Spartans shot a season-high 40 percent (6-of-15) from 3-point range and a season-high 94.7 percent (18-of-19) from the free throw line. Rae Corbo was perfect (10-of-10) from the free throw line on the afternoon.
NSU shot 50 percent (25-of-50) on the afternoon. The Spartans had three players in double-figures, including Brown, who led all scorers with 20 points. She shot 4-of-5 from behind the arc on the afternoon. Corbo posted 19 points and Quineshia Leonard finished with 12 points and five rebounds. Other notable scorers for NSU include Logan Powell, who scored a career-high nine points, and Rachel Gordon, who tallied eight points and nine rebounds.
The Lady Wildcats shot only 32.8 percent (19-of-58) overall and were 72.7 percent (16-of-22) from the free throw line.
About ECU: Redshirt sophomore Jada Payne posted a game-high 30 points in East Carolina's 86-76 loss to Grand Canyon in the championship game of the ULM Warhawk Classic on Saturday. The setback marked the first loss of the season for the Pirates as they fell to 8-1 on the year.
Payne tallied her second 30-point performance of the year shooting 45.0-percent from the floor as she went 9-for-20. Juniors Shae Nelson and Abria Trice also notched double-figure efforts as they registered 11 and 10 points, respectively. Junior Janesha Ebron tied her career-high with nine assists to go along with three rebounds and one steal.
East Carolina shot 41.8-percent on the night. The Pirates also held the edge in rebounds (33-30) and assists (14-8). The Pirates committed 38 personal fouls which led to 55 free throw attempts for the Antelopes. Grand Canyon managed to tally 44 points on free throws, while the Pirates notched 14 on 20 free throw attempts after the Antelopes fouled them 18 times.
Last Time Against ECU: NSU suffered a 56-44 loss to East Carolina at Minges Coliseum on Nov. 24, 2012.
Kashay Barnes scored nine of her 11 points in the first half and hit a jumper with 1:00 left to bring NSU within six at the half as NSU trailed ECU, 26-20.
Ebony Brown hit a 3-pointer with 10:47 left to bring NSU within six as the Spartans trailed, 37-31. The Spartans continued to fight and came within five with 28 seconds left to play on a jumper by Aivah Parham, but the Pirates were just too much for the Spartans.
NSU had three players in double-figures as Parham led the way with 12 points, followed by Barnes, who had 11, and Quineshia Leonard with 10.
Scoring Leaders: Rae Corbo leads NSU in scoring averaging 14.6 points per game followed by Ebony Brown, who is averaging 11.9 points per game.
Moving Up the Charts: Rachel Gordon is in 8th place all-time in career rebounding at NSU with 826 rebounds. Gordon needs 40 more rebounds to tie Beverly Davis for 7th place all-time career rebounding at NSU.
Cracking the Top 10: Rae Corbo ranks 12th all-time in career free throws made at NSU with 210 made shots. Corbo needs to make only 17 more to tie Charlette Fayton for 10th all-time career free throws made at NSU.
NCAA, MEAC Leaderboard: Rachel Gordon currently ranks No. 1 in the nation in rebounds per game (14.6 rebounds per game) and Rae Corbo is No. 22 in free throw percentage (92.1 %).
