LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Norfolk State men's and women's track and field teams sent a small delegation of athletes to the Liberty Quad Meet last Friday for one last tune-up for the upcoming MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. The meet was highlighted by strong performances by
Ra'Shaun Combs on the women's side and
Sammy Kiptoo for the men.
Combs ran a season-best 800-meter time of 2 minutes, 17.33 seconds. That placed her third overall and second among collegiate entrants. Also on the women's side,
Jamia Hutto was 11th in the mile run in a season-best time of 5:20.49.
On the men's side, Kiptoo ran a time of 15:51.35 to take fifth place in the 5,000 meters. He was beaten out by just two other collegians. Senior
Amos Kipkosgei was seventh in the same event (15:57.49).
NSU will participate in the 2013 MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships this Thursday-Saturday at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complete in Landover, Md. The Spartan men will be seeking their eighth consecutive conference indoor title, while the women are aiming to improve on last year's fifth-place finish.
