NSU Falls to Liberty, 6-1

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss to Liberty on Saturday afternoon at the Virginia Beach Tennis and Country Club.

NSU fell to 3-4 overall while Liberty improved to 3-0 on the season.

Junior Peter Rastromer-Pello and freshman Dzmitry Zyhmantovich led off the doubles matches with an 8-2 loss to Shea Thomas and Egon Samaai. In the No. 2 slot, sophomore Igor Braga and freshman Robin Riethmueller fell to Jorge Azuero and Dillon Segur, 8-3. Sophomore Daniel Grauel and freshman Samuel Lemberger finished off the doubles competition with an 8-5 win over Siim Tuus and Stan Vaughan.

Riethmueller captured NSU's lone singles victory with a 6-1, 6-1, finish over Segur at the No. 3 spot. In the No. 1 position, Tuus defeated Zyhmantovich, 6-3, 6-2. Braga competed at the No. 2 spot, where he was down 6-1, 3-0 to Thomas, before retiring the match. Azuero claimed a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Ramstromer-Pello at the No. 4 position. In the No. 5 spot, Samaai defeated Grauel, 6-3, 7-5. Lemberger rounded out the singles competition for the Spartans with a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Vaughan.

The Spartans return to the courts on Sunday to take on William & Mary at the Millie West Tennis Facility in Williamsburg, Va. Play begins at 5 p.m.
