WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Freshman Dzmitry Zyhmantovich claimed the Spartans' lone win with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Aaron Chaffee in the No. 1 singles spot as the Norfolk State men's tennis team fell to William & Mary, 6-1 on Saturday night at the Millie West Tennis Facility.
NSU fell to 3-5 overall and William & Mary improved to 4-3 on the season.
William & Mary won the singles matches 5-1. In the No. 2 position, Anton Anderson defeated freshman Robin Riethmueller, 6-7, 6-3, 7-5. Sophomore Igor Braga competed at the No. 3 spot, where he suffered a 0-6 loss to Ben Hoogland before retiring in the second set due to injury. In the No. 4 slot, sophomore Daniel Grauel fell to John Banks, 3-6, 4-6. Scott Huang claimed a 6-3, 6-3 victory over junior Peter Rastromer-Pello in the No. 5 position. Freshman Samuel Lemberger competed in the No. 6 spot, where he fell to Matt Waddell, 6-1, 4-6, 0-1.
In the doubles matches, Huang and Banks defeated Braga and Lemberger, 8-2. In the No. 3 spot, Waddell and Hoogland claimed an 8-3 victory over Riethmueller and Grauel. William & Mary clinched the doubles point so the match featuring Zyhmantovich and Ramstromer-Pello versus Chaffee and Adrian Vodislav was abandoned at 6-6.
NSU returns to action on Feb. 23 to take on N.C. Central at the NCCU Tennis Courts in Durham, N.C. Play begins at 3 p.m.
