Game Notes
NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk State women's basketball team takes on Delaware State on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Joseph Echols Hall. Tip-off is at 4 p.m.
The game has been designated Alumni and Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Members of the NSU Alumni Association will be admitted for $5 with the promotion postcard that was mailed out by the alumni office. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to support awareness for breast cancer.

Last Time Out: The Spartans (3-17, 1-8) suffered a 57-48 loss to Morgan State on Feb. 4 at Hill Field House in Baltimore, Md. The Spartans were held to just 26.8 (15-of-56) percent shooting on the afternoon. Junior Aivah Parham led the Spartans with 14 points and two steals. Rachel Gordon tallied 11 points and nine rebounds while Batavia Owens had her second consecutive double-figure scoring game as she finished the night with 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Lady Bears shot 38.5 (20-of-52) percent from the field. Only two Morgan State players reached double-figures including Whitney Southerland, who finished the night with 14 points. Tracey Carrington added 11 points.
All-Time Series: Delaware State leads the series with NSU, 21-14. The last time the Spartans defeated DSU was on Feb. 18, 2012.
About Delaware State: Delaware State (8-12, 5-2) is coming off of a 75-53 loss to North Carolina A&T on Feb. 4 at Memorial Hall in Dover, Del. DSU shot 43.1 (22-of-51) percent from the floor while the Aggies finished the game shooting 55.1 (27-of-49) percent. Tierra Hawkins led the Lady Hornets with 19 points and six rebounds. Aside from Hawkins, Tasia Bristow was the only other DSU player to score in double-figures as she finished the game with 15 points and two steals.
Last Time Against Delaware State: The Spartans came away with a 84-66 win over the Lady Hornets in the first meeting on Feb. 4 at Memorial Hall in Dover, Del. NSU shot 60.4 (32-of-53) percent from the field and Tyisha Bridges led the Spartans with 18 points, five rebounds and two steals. Three other Spartans scored in double-figures including Whitney Long, who tallied 17 points. Batavia Owens was just shy of a double-double as she finished the night with 13 points and eight rebounds while Rae Corbo added 10 points, respectively.
DSU shot only 45.1 (23-of-51) percent on the night. Tierra Hawkins and Tasia Bristow led the Lady Hornets with 21 points each. Deanna Harmon also scored in double-figures as she contributed 10 points for DSU.
In the second meeting, NSU defeated the Lady Hornets, 78-73, at Joseph Echols Hall. The Spartans finished the afternoon shooting 41.5 (27-of-65) percent. Whitney Long led all scorers with 27 points and seven steals. Batavia Owens posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Rae Corbo added 15 points.
NSU held DSU to just 36.4 (24-of-66) shooting on the afternoon. Three Lady Hornets scored in double-figures as Tasia Bristow led the way with 19 points and four steals. Deanna Harmon tallied 16 points and five rebounds. Tierra Hawkins had 15 points and six rebounds.
Scoring Leaders: Rachel Gordon leads NSU in scoring averaging 10.2 points per game followed by Kashay Barnes, who is averaging 8.8 points per game.
MEAC, NCAA Leaderboard: As a team NSU currently ranks in the top 5 in four different categories in the MEAC, while NSU players also rank in the top 5 in six different categories, including Rachel Gordon, who leads the league in rebounding at 10.5 boards per game. Gordon also currently ranks 21st in the NCAA in rebounding. Recca Trice is second in the league for assists and is ranked 30th in the nation in assists per games.
Cracking the top 10: Recca Trice's eight assists in the game against Morgan State on Feb. 4 moved her into third place all-time in the NSU record book for career assists. Trice has 111 assists on the season and her 443 career assists puts her 24 away from tying Sharron Tapps for fourth all-time.
Rachel Gordon's eight rebounds in the game against Coppin State on Jan. 19 moved her into 11th place all-time in the NSU record book for career rebounds. Gordon has 179 rebounds on the season and her 646 career rebounds puts her 65 away from tying Andrea Watts for 10th all-time.
