Complete Match Results

FLORENCE, S.C.
– The Norfolk State men's tennis team rebounded from losing the doubles point to Bethune-Cookman by winning four of the five completed singles matches, earning a 4-2 win at the MEAC Southern Division Roundup on Saturday afternoon.

The win keeps the Spartans (5-5, 3-0 MEAC) unbeaten in conference play with one divisional match remaining, against Florida A&M at 10 a.m. Monday in Florence, S.C. If NSU can top the Rattlers, NSU would claim the MEAC Southern Division regular-season title.

The Wildcats (5-5, 0-1 MEAC) got wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles to clinch the doubles point. NSU gained a brief early edge when Samuel Lemberger and Daniel Grauel downed Kip Jackson and Gilbert Rotich 8-3 at No. 3 doubles, but the Wildcats won the next two matches. At No. 2, the Wildcats' Diego Garavito and Santiago Lobelo downed Robin Riethmueller and Igor Braga 8-2. The B-CU team of Juan Varon and Seve Day then topped NSU's Peter Rastromer-Pello and Dzmitry Zyhmantovich 8-6 at No. 1 to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.

But NSU bounced back nicely by taking four of the five singles matches that were finished. Freshman Zyhmantovich improved to 8-2 on the season and remained a perfect 3-0 in MEAC matches with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Rotich at the No. 1 singles spot. Riethmueller improved his season singles mark to 7-2 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Garavito at No. 3, giving NSU a 2-1 lead.

Grauel made it 3-1 with his 6-2, 7-5 win over Moritz Pronath at No. 6 singles. The Wildcats closed the gap to 3-2 with Lima's 6-3, 6-2 win over Lemberger at No. 5 singles.

But Braga clinched the match with a three-set victory over Day at No. 2. Braga dropped the first set 6-2, but took the next two sets 7-5 and 6-1.
