Spartans Handle Virginia Union

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team posted a 7-0 win over Virginia Union on Wednesday afternoon.

NSU improved to 6-5 overall while Virginia Union fell to 6-6 on the season.

Yvonne Kamegne and Laura Gutierrez defeated Kiara Miller and Ellie Parsons, 8-0, in the No. 1 match. In the No. 2 spot, Andrea Macchiavello and Mafalda Lhorca posted an 8-0 win over Katrina Joe and Deja Shabazz. Kia Batiste and Rebecca Graff completed the sweep for NSU with an 8-1 win over DeJamine Bryson and Emisa McClendon.

In the singles matches, NSU continued their winnings ways as Kamegne defeated Miller, 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 1 spot. Macchiavello posted a 6-1, 6-2, win over Parsons in the No. 2 match. In the No. 3 slot, Gutierrez claimed a 6-0, 6-0, win over Joe. Lhorca competed in match No. 4, where she upended Bryson, 6-1, 6-0. In match No. 5, Graff claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win over McClendon. Kariuk competed at the No. 6 position and overtook Shabazz, 6-2, 6-0.

The Spartans will take on Chowan on Friday in Norfolk, Va. The match will begin at 2 p.m.
