NSU Bounced on 2nd Day of MEAC Championship

MEAC Championship Bracket

CHESAPEAKE, Va.
– The No. 11 Norfolk State bowling team went 1-2 and was eliminated from the 2013 MEAC Championship Saturday during the second day of competition at the AMF Lanes in Chesapeake.

The Spartans were seeded fifth out of eight teams heading into Saturday's bracket play after Friday's qualifying rounds. NSU, though, struggled in the first match against North Carolina A&T. The Aggies swept the Spartans 4-0 in Baker play to drop NSU into the loser's bracket.

The Spartans were able to rebound, defeating Morgan State 4-0 in the next round before the teams broke for lunch. Following the break, NSU faced Hampton in the next round of the bracket. The Spartans were up by a 2-1 margin and then again 3-2, but the Pirates earned victories in the last two games to take the match, 4-3.

NSU ran its record to 63-33 after finishing the weekend 4-4 overall.

UMES advanced to tomorrow's championship match after defeating Florida A&M in seven games in the semifinal. FAMU will take on Hampton in the semifinal of the loser's bracket tomorrow for the right to bowl against the Hawks with the MEAC title on the line.

The Spartans will find out if they have earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship on Wednesday at 4 p.m. on www.NCAA.com.
